Competition | Ocean Art Safe Under the Sea 2019

The Underwater Photography Guide is proud to announce that it is accepting entries for a special Ocean Art Safe Under the Sea Underwater Photo Competition. The contest was created as a way to bring our global dive community together in lieu of the coronavirus pandemic.

Times are tough, but perhaps now is the most opportune moment to self-reflect, learn, reminisce, edit photos, and support our extended human family. The Underwater Photography Guide has teamed up with Bluewater Photo and Travel to present a special edition of their prestigious underwater photography competition - Ocean Art: Safe Under the Sea. The goal of this photo competition is to bring our global underwater photographic community together, provide an outlet for creative expression, and to raise money to help fight Covid-19 for the benefit of all. One quarter of all proceeds will be donated to the CDC Foundation and the WHO Covid-19 response fund!

Ocean Art is one of the most prestigious underwater photo competitions in the world and one of the best endowed. It attracts amateur to pro photographers across the globe. Fifteen categories ensure all photo disciplines and cameras compete fairly, while the 75+ winning images will create a portfolio of some of the best examples of human spirit as we stay at home.

Ocean Art Safe Under the Sea prizes are provided by seven courageous sponsors, dedicated to supporting our global underwater photography community. Prizes include gift certificates from Bluewater Photo, gift certificates from Bluewater Travel, a dive trip for one with Atlantis Dive Resorts (Philippines), a dive trip with Aquamarine Diving (Indonesia), a $500 gift certificate and a DS161 strobe from Ikelite, and a Sea Dragon 3000F Auto Photo/Video Light from SeaLife.

There have been some exciting changes made for the Safe Under the Sea contest! After receiving some amazing entries last year to the Blackwater and Underwater Conservation categories, a Shipwreck category has been added to highlight man-made structures that have found their way below the waves. Ocean Art Safe Under the Sea consists of 12 categories total, including 3 compact camera categories, giving any underwater photographer a chance to win a great prize. Unique categories include Cold/Temperate Water, Blackwater, Underwater Conservation, and Shipwrecks, while the more traditional categories include Wide-Angle, Macro, Marine Life Portraits and Marine Life Behavior. The Underwater Art category encourages creativity in post- processing.

Winners from each category will be able to rank the prizes they would like to receive, making it more likely that each winner will receive a prize they desire.

This competition will be judged by the dedicated staff at the Underwater Photography Guide.

Photos must be submitted before the deadline of 23:59PM PST on June 30, 2020.

More information can be found on the Ocean Art Photo Competition page at http://www.uwphotographyguide.com/ocean-art.

The full Ocean Art 2020 will open in Autumn of this year – “Safe Under the Sea” is an additional mid-year competition.
