Sigma 24-70mm for Sony Setting It Up // Ikelite 200DL Zoom Gear Assembly [VIDEO]

Featuring Logan Wood

The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art (Mark I) can be a versatile option for videographers needing a mid-range zoom lens. Ikelite Video Producer Logan Wood shows you how to set it up with your Sony full frame mirrorless camera in an Ikelite 200DLM Underwater Housing with dome port.

** Note that this video shows the Mark I version of the lens. These recommendations do not apply to the Mark II (2024) version of the lens.

Installing the Zoom Gear & Lens

First, set the housing on its back and using the included Zoom Gear Retainer Tool we’re just going to loosen the zoom gear retainer and remove the dust cap.

Next, drop the Zoom Gear # 5509.35, teeth-side-down into the port opening and put the zoom gear retainer ring back on and tighten it down.

Take off the body cap off the camera and off the lens. Then line up the white dots on the lens and camera and bayonet the lens on as your normally would. Remove the lens cap.

Test for zoom functionality.

Installing the Port Extensions & Dome Port

Next, add the port extensions. You'll need DL 20mm Port Extension # 75020 and DL 50mm Port Extension # 75050 for this specific lens.

Add a tiny bit of included Ikelite lubricant to the o-rings on each extension and check for any unwanted debris that could compromise the seal, then put the extensions together. To do this, make sure the three thumbscrews located on each extension are backed out and not protruding into the inside diameter of the extension. Then line the thumbscrews up with the corresponding pockets on the outside diameter of the port extensions and press together then tighten down the thumbscrews. You don't need a tool for this, just finger tight is fine.

Ensure your thumbscrews line up with the pockets on the outside diameter of dome ports, extensions, and port opening.

Next, add a small amount of lubricant to the port o-ring and check for any debris. Line up the thumbscrews on the port extensions with the corresponding pockets on the housing's port opening. Press the extensions down and tighten all three thumbscrews. If you feel any resistance when tightening you most likely have not lined up with the pocket, back out and try again.

This lens works best with the large DL 8 inch Dome Port # 75340. On the dome port you will notice that one of the three thumbscrews lines up with the dome port shade, this will orient to the top of our housing. Like with the extensions, make sure all three thumbscrews are backed out and not protruding into the inside diameter. Line up the thumbscrew and shade with the top of the housing and port extension pockets, press down and tighten thumbscrews. Double check that you have zoom functionally and you're good to go.

We recommend adding the optional Trim Weight System # 47140 to balance out your system when shooting this lens underwater. See more: Using a Trim Weight System for Balance and Stability Underwater.
