Diving Catalina Island with the Canon R5 and R6 [VIDEO]

Ambassador Gary Burns, Ikelite President Jean Rydberg, and Ikelite VP John Brigham head to Catalina Island with two of our all-time favorite underwater systems: the Canon EOS R5 and R6 full frame mirrorless cameras. 

We love these cameras for their dynamic range, amazing autofocus capabilities, and exceptional video quality. Canon is known for ergonomics and the controls translate almost effortlessly underwater.

Santa Catalina is one of the Channel Islands off the coast of California just south of Los Angeles. It was about a 90-minute boat ride each way from the Seal Beach pier. It was worth it to bear the winter water temperature of about 60ºF for some amazing visibility among the kelp forests. We enjoyed shooting California's pet goldfish, the Garibaldi, along with some unexpected visitors. 

The Canon R5 was shot with the Canon RF 14-35mm f/4L lens. The Canon R6 was shot with the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L fisheye lens and EF-to-RF adapter. Both lenses were shot behind the Compact 8" Dome Port.

Topside footage was shot with the Sony Alpha a7S III.
