Featuring David Fleetham
This June the US postal system issued a set of stamps featuring six different species of turtles that are protected under the Endangered Species Act. Ikelite Ambassador David Fleetham shares his thoughts on having his green sea turtle image featured in this historic stamp set.
The shot that they used of mine, the green sea turtle, was just a head-on intimate shot of the turtle looking at the camera. I have shot thousands and thousands of sea turtles. They're a favorite subject, especially in Hawaii where they’re protected; and on many dive sites they just ignore divers and photographers.
There's six different species of sea turtles that are on the stamps. Mine is a green sea turtle, but two other photographers from Hawaii are also featured there, Doug Perrine and the late Jim Watts, who are both good friends of mine.
It was great to end up with that image on the US postage stamp.
